The weekly roundup is my offering of inspiring things I found online in the past week. May they bring you some pearl of wisdom, joy, or humor.
Article – A Brief History of Breeze Blocks, Mid-Century Architecture’s Favorite Kind of Flair
I have never found breeze blocks to be very attractive, but after reading their history I can appreciate them more. I was surprised to learn that they started in the Art Deco period because we typically associate them with MCM.
Podcast – How to Take a Gap Week (And Why You Might Need One)
I came across this podcast in a fun way: just search Apple podcasts using the name of a person you respect or admire, see what shows they have been interviewed on, then find an intriguing show title from that show’s archive. Tiffany Han explains really well the paradox of how taking a break can get you ahead. I recommend listening to this.
Article – What It’s Like to Win an Oscar
This is a great read about Carol Dysinger, who won Best Documentary Short in 2020 for Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl). I found two meaningful lessons in her story. One, you might not get recognition until after decades of working on your craft. Two, the recognition isn’t really going to change your life so focus on enjoying the journey, not obsessing over the destination.
What creative projects are you immersed in currently?
Have a fabulous weekend,
